In 2013, I experienced a deep spiritual awakening and spent 4 years in solitude. Meditating for hours a day, my mind felt calm and Zen all the time. I had cultivated a true monk mind.
But when I moved in with my girlfriend at the time and her young son, suddenly my monk mind disappeared. The thoughts in my head raced around and I had zero privacy, leaving me with no peace.
Suddenly, my monk mind was gone. I felt like a failure.
But then I discovered the biological and spiritual aspects of an overactive mind and new strategies for keeping my mind quiet amid the chaos. It was then that I discovered that I can have it all—a busy life AND a quiet mind. My monk mind had returned.
